More than 33,000 alimony recovery applications were pending in Ukrainian courts in 2025, according to the State Judicial Administration. 88% of the applications were reviewed, and in 86% of cases the claims were satisfied. In total, UAH 60 million in alimony payments were ordered to be collected last year — about UAH 2.5 thousand per case on average. At the same time, more than 208,000 enforcement proceedings related to alimony payment arrears were recorded in Ukraine by the end of 2025.

33,447 alimony recovery applications were under consideration in courts last year. The vast majority of them were filed during the same year — 31,827 applications. This is 5% fewer than in 2024. At the same time, over the past 10 years the number of new applications has more than halved.

Courts handle such cases fairly quickly: over the year, 31,587 proceedings were reviewed. 28,544 cases were resolved directly, and 86% of claims were satisfied.

The total amount of satisfied claims is also increasing: the overall sum of alimony payments ordered by courts reached UAH 60 million, which is 22% more than in 2024. However, there is a nuance: on average, UAH 2,500 per case was awarded in 2025. For comparison, this figure was UAH 1,900 in 2024 and only UAH 1,200 in 2021.

Judge Petro Tyshkun explains that the statistics on alimony recovery through lawsuits do not show the full picture, as plaintiffs often choose a faster procedure:

«Most alimony payments are collected based on court orders, where the claimant can choose between two options: a fixed monetary amount equal to 50% of the subsistence minimum for a child of the relevant age, or alimony as a share of the debtor’s income, which may be 1/4, 1/3, or 1/2. However, since many payers report only minimal official income, the amount of payments often remains minimal»,

— comments Judge Petro Tyshkun.

However, a court decision does not guarantee actual payment. If we check alimony debts, there are more than 208,000 cases recorded. Over the past year, this category in the Debtors Register increased by 1,172 proceedings, even though some cases were opened and others were closed during the year. In 91% of cases, the debtors are men. It is also worth noting that one person may have several enforcement proceedings.
