In the first half of 2025, Ukrainian banks earned 100.06 billion UAH before taxes. At the same time, every fifth bank in the country remains unprofitable. The top 10 banks generated 87% of the profit, with PrivatBank accounting for almost half. The sector of foreign groups and private banks is showing a decline.
100.06 billion UAH — that’s how much Ukrainian banks earned in the first half of 2025 before taxes. This is almost the same result as last year. Tax expenses amounted to 21.99 billion UAH — or 22% of profit.
After paying taxes, 78.07 billion UAH remained. However, not all financial institutions ended up in the black in the first half of the year: 13 banks reported losses. Overall, at present, every fifth bank in the country is unprofitable.
Even those that are profitable do not always show growth: more than a third of profitable banks improved their performance. The leader in dynamics is Metabank, which grew 118 times. PrivatBank shows stable growth: +14%.
The top 10 largest banks remained unchanged. Together they generated 68.05 billion UAH — 87% of the total sector profit.
Almost half of the profit of all Ukrainian banks comes from Privat: 34.88 billion UAH in profit and 11.09 billion UAH in taxes. Among state-owned banks, only First Investment is in the red (-29.43 million UAH). Motor-Bank, on the contrary, went into the black this year for the first time in a long while. Overall, the profit of the group of state-owned banks grew by 4% compared to the same period last year — mainly thanks to the leader.
For foreign banks, profits, on the contrary, fell by almost a quarter — to 16.57 billion UAH. The leader remains Raiffeisen: +10% growth, 4.74 billion UAH in profit and 1.66 billion UAH in taxes.
Privately owned banks are also down by a quarter, with profits of 10.06 billion UAH. PUMB remains first with 3.57 billion UAH — that is −7% compared to last year. Together with Universal Bank (Monobank), they accounted for 59% of the group’s profit.
More than a quarter of the country’s private banks closed the first half of 2025 with losses.
