Where is business relocating the most?

According to the Unified State Register, 11,083 companies changed their legal registration address in 2024. The majority of them operate in wholesale trade and construction. Kyiv emerged as the leader in both businesses relocating to and leaving the city, with nearly equal numbers moving in and out last year.

Over 11,000 companies relocated from one region to another last year. Business relocations due to the war decreased by 18% over the year. This is also 25% less than before the full-scale war.

32% of these companies are engaged in wholesale trade, another 6% in construction. Rounding out the top three are businesses dealing with real estate transactions — 4.8%.

The most business relocations occurred from Kyiv, with 36.6% (or 4,000 companies) leaving the capital. Another 10% moved from Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

At the same time, these regions remain the most popular destinations for businesses. 28% of companies registered in Kyiv, 11% relocated to Kyiv region, and 10% to Dnipropetrovsk region.

The most popular relocation routes were:

  • From Kyiv to Kyiv region — 775 companies;
  • From Kyiv to Dnipropetrovsk region — 575 companies;
  • From Kyiv region to Kyiv — 563 companies.

The largest company by revenue that relocated in Q3 of 2024 was “ZE.TEK” (with a revenue of 6.7 billion UAH), a gas trading company. It relocated from Rivne region to Kyiv in 2024, but plans to return to Rivne in 2025.

“KVORUM-NAFTA” (with a revenue of 5.7 billion UAH), a paper product manufacturing company, relocated from Mykolaiv region to Kyiv. Meanwhile, the production company “ZOLYTY DRAGON” (with a revenue of 4 billion UAH), engaged in wholesale trade, moved from Vinnytsia region to Kyiv.

Context

It’s worth noting that companies can change their legal addresses multiple times a year. For instance, the wholesale trade company “ALBAKOR” (with a revenue of 4 billion UAH) relocated 5 times last year, moving back and forth between Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Currently, the business is registered in Dnipropetrovsk region.
