In the first half of 2025, Ukrainians dissolved at least 38.7 thousand marriages in courts — three times more than in civil registry offices (12.7 thousand). Almost half of all divorces come from just five regions. The lowest number of divorces is recorded in the western part of the country.

At least 38,671 marriages were dissolved in Ukrainian courts in the first half of 2025, according to the court decision search engine “Babusya.” Dnipropetrovsk region became the absolute leader in the number of divorces this year. In just six months, 5,188 couples divorced there — accounting for 13% of all court rulings identified through the Babusya system.

The capital holds the second position: Kyiv recorded 3,544 divorce rulings (9%). Odesa region ranks third with 3,121 cases (8%).

Overall, 45% of all divorces are concentrated in just five regions: Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Kharkiv, Kyiv regions, and Kyiv city itself.

In western Ukraine, divorce rates remain traditionally low. Courts in Zakarpattia region reviewed 777 cases, and in Volyn — 829. These are among the lowest figures in the country, excluding areas heavily affected by hostilities.

During the same period, 12,691 marriages were dissolved through civil registry offices — three times fewer than in courts. Notably, the leading regions remain largely the same, with only slight differences: the capital takes first place with 1,780 divorces, followed by Dnipropetrovsk region with 1,252, and Kharkiv region with 889 cases.

Excluding frontline and partially occupied territories, the lowest numbers of divorces through civil registries were recorded again in Zakarpattia — 171 cases, Chernivtsi — 239, and Ternopil region — 247.

It is worth noting that divorce through the civil registry is possible only if the couple has no joint property or disputes over its division, and no underage children.
