Nearly one in five fraud cases has reached the court this year

More than 38,000 cases were opened under Article 190 “Fraud” in the first five months of 2024, according to the General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine (GPU). This is 1.6 times more than for the entire year of 2021. Almost one in five fraud cases has reached the court this year.
A record 38,204 criminal proceedings for fraud were opened in Ukraine in the first five months of 2024. This is already 1.6 times more than the entire year of 2021, which saw 23,847 cases. The number of criminal proceedings for fraud has increased by 10% compared to the same period last year.
A little over 7,000, or 18%, of all registered cases in 2024 have reached the court. Additionally, more than 4,500 cases have been closed.

According to the National Bank of Ukraine, the most popular methods of payment card fraud in Ukraine remain social engineering and phishing.
