According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, more than 491,000 weapons have been lost or stolen since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine. The amount of lost weapons almost doubled between September 2024 and September 2025. Only 6% of the weapons were stolen, while the overwhelming majority were lost. The most frequent cases of lost weapons are recorded in Kyiv, Donetsk, and Mykolaiv regions.

A total of 491,426 weapons have been registered as lost or stolen in Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion. It is worth noting that the register is updated daily: new entries are added, and those that have been recovered are removed.

The number of lost and stolen weapons has doubled over the past year: from 270,900 in September 2024 to nearly half a million in September 2025.

Most often, assault rifles go missing — over 149,000 units, almost one-third of the total. In second place are hunting rifles — more than 135,000. Carbines, rubber-bullet pistols, and combat pistols account for another quarter. The most frequently lost weapons are: AK-74 assault rifles — more than 99,000 cases, Makarov pistols — over 21,000 cases.

Most of the losses are rifled weapons — over 52%. Smoothbore weapons account for 28%, and the rest are traumatic, rubber-bullet, gas, and other categories. More than half of the missing weapons are foreign-made: 58% of the total. A quarter are of unknown origin, and only 17% are domestic.

In the vast majority of cases, weapons are not stolen but lost. 94% of the total are losses, while 6% are thefts.

Kyiv leads in the number of lost and missing weapons — 78.5 thousand units. Next is Donetsk — 72.2 thousand, followed by Mykolaiv (50.1 thousand), Kyiv region (50.1 thousand), and Zaporizhzhia (36.9 thousand).
