Ukrainians’ microloan debt increased by UAH 7.7 billion over the year

Ukrainians took out 8.6 million microloans totaling UAH 56.76 billion last year. The average payday loan amount was UAH 6,600. Over the year, the total debt to microfinance organizations increased by UAH 7.7 billion. As of now, UAH 27.65 billion remains unpaid. The top 10 microfinance organizations in the country generated UAH 1.8 billion in profit last year.

Ukrainians took out 8,608,041 microloans last year. In total, they borrowed UAH 56.76 billion from microfinance organizations. Despite the number of loans remaining almost unchanged (+3% over the year), the market volume grew by 10%.

On average, about 720,000 loans were taken out per month. After a sharp decline at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, borrowing has been increasing year over year. However, the number of microloans is still significantly lower than before the invasion. In 2021, for example, an average of 1.2 million contracts were signed each month.

The average “payday loan” amounted to UAH 6,600. At the same time, borrowing was uneven throughout the year: at the beginning of the year, the average loan size was UAH 5,780, while by the end of the year it had risen to UAH 7,670.

The number of microloan agreements is growing, but repayment is lagging behind. Ukrainians ended the year with UAH 27.65 billion in debt to microfinance organizations. Over the year, this amount increased by one third — by UAH 7.7 billion. For comparison, at the beginning of 2023, the total debt to microfinance organizations was only UAH 8 billion.

Most loans are taken for a period of 3 months to 1 year — such agreements currently account for 61%. At the same time, last year saw a surge in microloans issued for 2 to 3 years — increasing by as much as 36 times.

Top microfinance organizations by revenue

The ten largest microfinance organizations (MFOs) in Ukraine generated UAH 18.54 billion in revenue in 2025. Over the year, their revenues slightly declined, fluctuating by around 2%. However, profit tells a different story — it increased 1.6 times year-on-year, reaching UAH 1.8 billion.

The ranking is led by Ukr Kredit Finance (CreditKasa), with UAH 3.32 billion in revenue. At the same time, the leader in terms of profit is Spozhyvchyi Tsentr (ShvydkoHroshi), which earned UAH 470 million.
