Ukrainians took out 4.39 million microloans in the first half of 2025

2.18 million microloans were taken in Ukraine from April to June 2025, according to the National Bank of Ukraine. In total, Ukrainians signed 4.39 million contracts with microfinance organizations in the first half of this year. The average loan amount per quarter increased by 9% — up to ₴6,029. Currently, Ukrainians take about 730,000 microloans every month.

Ukrainians took 2.18 million microloans in the second quarter of 2025. The number of loans did not change compared to the previous quarter, but the average loan amount grew by 9% — up to ₴6,029. However, compared to last year, the loan amount stayed almost the same.

4.39 million contracts were signed in the first half of 2025. This is 8% more than in the same period last year. On average, citizens take 730,000 loans every month.

In total, this year Ukrainians have already borrowed ₴26.44 billion in microloans — 8% more than in the same period last year.

Even though the number of microloans has not decreased, Ukrainians have been paying them back more responsibly. At the beginning of the year, microloan debt grew by ₴3.38 billion, but in the second quarter — only by ₴0.94 billion.

Overall, Ukrainians owe microfinance organizations ₴24.29 billion.

Despite growing demand, the number of companies providing microloans is decreasing. At the beginning of July 2025, there were 303 financial institutions in Ukraine with the required license. This is a quarter less than last year. Overall, since the start of the full-scale war, the number of such companies has dropped by more than half.
