Total pensioners: 10.17 million people

The average pension in Ukraine is currently UAH 6,544, according to the Pension Fund of Ukraine. Over the past year, the average payment has increased by 13%. Every fifth Ukrainian pensioner receives an average pension of around UAH 4,500. 63,000 pensioners get payments below the subsistence minimum, and 261,000 people receive pensions at the minimum level — UAH 2,361. Overall, there are more than 10.1 million pensioners in Ukraine this year, and nearly 73% of them receive age-based pensions.
There are currently 10.17 million pensioners in Ukraine. The vast majority — 73% — receive age-based pensions, which amounts to 7.4 million people. Almost 1.5 million citizens (15%) receive disability pensions. Around 700,000 people (7%) receive payments due to the loss of a breadwinner, and 5% (about 500,000 people) receive long-service pensions. Social pensions and lifetime judicial maintenance payments account for less than 1% of the total.

The average pension in Ukraine is currently 6,544 UAH. Over the year, the payment increased by 13%. However, not everyone receives this amount: more than one-third of pensioners get around 3,250 UAH. It is worth noting that over the year the share of such pensioners decreased from 44% to 35%.
Another 15% of pensioners — that is more than 1.5 million people — receive payments of over 10,000 UAH, and the average pension in this group reaches 16,000 UAH. Another 30% of Ukrainian pensioners live on an average of 6,860 UAH, while every fifth pensioner receives about 4,500 UAH per month.
At the same time, 63,000 pensioners receive pensions below the subsistence minimum, and 261,000 Ukrainians live exactly on this minimum level — 2,361 UAH.

The largest number of pensioners lives in Dnipropetrovsk region — 867,000 people. It is followed by Kyiv (746,000), Kharkiv region (687,000), and Lviv region (665,000). The smallest number of pensioners is registered in Kherson region (202,000) and Chernivtsi region (203,000).
Pension amounts also differ by region. The highest average pensions are traditionally in the capital — nearly 9,000 UAH, while the lowest are in Ternopil region — around 5,000 UAH. Although pensions across the country increased by 13% overall, in some regions the growth was much more noticeable — particularly in Rivne region (+24%) and Volyn region (+20%).
The majority of pensioners — over 82% — receive their payments through banks, most commonly via PrivatBank and Oschadbank. At the same time, a pension is not the only source of income for many people: every fourth pensioner in Ukraine continues to work. That amounts to 2.8 million people, and their average pension is 7,160 UAH.
