Top car brands by region

Over 273,000 cars were imported into Ukraine during the first eight months of 2024. Volkswagen led the way, with over 30,000 cars imported this year. Residents of Kyiv, Lviv, and Odesa regions were the most active in expanding their vehicle fleets.

The highest number of newly imported vehicles were registered in Kyiv, with 36,780 vehicles, accounting for 13.5% of the total cars imported this year. Following Kyiv were Lviv region with 28,029 vehicles (10%) and Odesa region with 20,070 vehicles (7%).
The regions with the lowest number of imported vehicles were Kirovohrad (4,871 vehicles or 1.8%), Donetsk (3,930 vehicles or 1.4%), and Kherson (1,644 vehicles or 0.6%). In the frontline Luhansk region, only 1,045 vehicles were registered, making up 0.4% of the total.
Volkswagen emerged as the most popular car brand among Ukrainians, with 30,175 vehicles imported (11%). Other brands in the top rankings include Renault with 20,664 cars, Audi with 16,021, Nissan with 15,051, and BMW with 13,531 vehicles.

In 23 out of 24 regions of Ukraine, Volkswagen has become the most popular car brand. The only exception is the capital, Kyiv, where Toyota is more frequently registered, and in Chernihiv region, Renault takes the lead.
When it comes to car models, the distribution differs slightly. The Skoda Octavia dominates with 6,088 units, followed by the Volkswagen Golf (5,896 cars), Volkswagen Passat (4,903), Volkswagen Tiguan (4,760), and Mazda CX-5 (4,251).
The popularity of specific models also varies by region. For instance, the Skoda Octavia is the top choice in the Zakarpattia, Cherkasy, Rivne, and Zhytomyr regions. Meanwhile, in eastern regions like Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Donetsk, and Luhansk, the Renault Megane is the most commonly registered vehicle.
The western regions, including Ivano-Frankivsk, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Volyn, and Ternopil, favor the Volkswagen Golf.
The Mazda CX-5 is particularly popular in Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions. In Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Mykolaiv regions, the Renault Duster leads in registrations.
The Nissan Leaf dominates in Odesa and Chernihiv regions. Lviv shows a preference for the Audi Q5, while Kyiv region (excluding the capital) leans towards the Nissan Rogue. In Kirovohrad region, the Volkswagen Tiguan is the preferred choice.
