Revenue in the transport and postal sectors grew by 14%

Which businesses topped the industry ranking?

Companies in the transport and postal sectors generated 219.82 billion UAH in revenue, according to the 2024 OpenDataBot Index. Half of the top ten companies are state-owned enterprises. The most profitable company was Ukrtransnafta, while Ukrposhta posted the largest losses.

The combined revenue of the top companies in the Opendatabot Index for the transport and postal sectors grew by 14% last year. Five state-owned companies made it into the top 10, with a total revenue of 160.89 billion UAH, accounting for 73% of the entire group. Four of these companies posted profits, while only one reported losses. Interestingly, the situation was the exact opposite in 2022.

For several years, almost half of the revenue from industry leaders has come from the state-owned JSC Ukrainian Railways, which generated 92.62 billion UAH or 42% of the total revenue. The railway operator’s revenue grew by nearly a quarter over the past year.

The highest profit among all companies was recorded by Ukrtransnafta, which earned 19.67 billion UAH, a fourfold increase compared to 2022. The company’s revenue reached 10.96 billion UAH, a 22% increase.

The state-owned Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine posted a profit of 11.11 billion UAH, but its revenue decreased by 22%, amounting to 36.03 billion UAH.

In the previous Opendatabot Index, Ukrtransgaz reported a loss of 5.45 billion UAH. However, the situation improved over the year, and the company turned a profit of 143 million UAH.

Ukrposhta was the only state-owned company that reported losses last year. Its losses decreased by 1.6 times, but still reached 796 million UAH. At the same time, the company’s revenue grew by 12%, reaching 11.58 billion UAH.

Privately-owned New Post ranked second in the index by revenue, with 36.47 billion UAH. Its net profit almost doubled, reaching 3.97 billion UAH.

Two companies from Oleksandr Radavskyi’s holding group, Promvagontrans and Berehiv Grain-collecting Company, also made it to the ranking. Both companies increased their revenues by 31% and 9%, respectively. However, despite the growth, both businesses ended the year with losses: −16.6 million UAH and −174.5 million UAH, respectively.

Additionally, the TOP-10 included:

  • Lemtrans, part of Rinat Akhmetov’s SCM group, with a revenue of 7.14 billion UAH (-17%);
  • Logistic Union, part of the ATB corporation, with a revenue of 6.5 billion UAH (+20%).
