How Ukraine is losing ground in the US information space

Ukraine spent $62,500 of public money on lobbying in the US in 2024, according to FARA (Foreign Agents Registration Act). That’s 6 times less than in 2023. Since the start of 2022, a total of over $5.4 million has been spent to promote Ukraine’s interests in the US. For comparison, Russia spent 2.2 times more on lobbying during the same period — $11.8 million.
In total, there are 6,882 lobbying firms registered in the US, but only 517 are currently active. These firms influence American politicians and help shape the agenda in Washington.
Ukraine spent $62,500 on lobbying services in the US in 2024. That’s 6 times less than in 2023, when it spent $366,700. Since 2022, Ukraine has spent $5.4 million on lobbying. That’s 2.2 times less than Russia, which spent $11.8 million during the same period.
Other countries are also cutting lobbying budgets. For example, Poland reduced its spending by 5 times, down to $245,200 in 2024.
Russia made an even bigger cut — spending dropped by 18 times to $461,200 in 2024. Still, Russia spent 7.4 times more on US lobbying than Ukraine, and almost twice as much as Poland.

In March 2024, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a lobbying law in Ukraine. The goal was to regulate lobbying and make it more transparent. However, in practice, this law has not started working yet.
