Over the past year, traffic enforcement cameras recorded 1,742,099 violations, and UAH 259,598,532 was paid in fines. However, it had little to no impact on the traffic accident rate.
Traffic enforcement cameras were placed in Kyiv and national roads in June 2020. No cameras were installed in other regions.
The number of road traffic violations registered by the cameras has decreased year to date. Although 425,000 violations were registered over the first month, now their number hardly exceeds 112,000.

However, the innovation did not affect on road accident rates. The Kyiv Region is an absolute leader in terms of road accidents. In 2020, 53,874 road accidents were reported, against 53,134 in 2019. Therefore, the figure increased by 1.4%.
Despite the overall higher road accident rate in Ukraine, those with casualties become fewer. E.g., the number of road accidents with injuries decreased by 3.5%, and those with fatalities by almost 11.6%. However, in some of the regions where the cameras were not introduced, the dynamics were similar.
|Total road accidents||162,526||150,120||160,675||168,107||55,791|
|Road accidents with fatalities||3,432||3,350||3,454||3,541||785|
|Road accidents with injuries||27,220||24,294||26,052||26,140||5,988|
In other regions, the number of road accidents only inched up, too. In Lviv, Mykolaiv, and Kirovohrad regions, the figure even went down.
