In Fall and Winter, Flu and Pneumonia Mortality Tripled

During the fall and winter of 2020–2021, the number of people who died due to the flu or pneumonia is 9,948. It is three times higher compared to the same period in 2019–2020: back then, the number was 3,277.

The number of patients with respiratory diseases traditionally tends to increase during spring and winter. The same thing applies to COVID-19 that took away the lives of 25,080 people at that time. Together with the flu and pneumonia, the total number of deceased is 35,028 for six months.

The data on mortality is the key information needed by the state and community to make decisions. The data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine has been falling behind for almost two months, so we cannot realistically estimate the mortality rate in Ukraine right now.

We will update the data each time the Statistic Service provides the mortality number.
