Various diseases caused 46,851 deaths in Ukraine in July—4.5% less than in June when 49,077 people died. For comparison, overall mortality was somewhat higher at 47,297 people in July 2020.
Mortality from half of the most common causes decreased. In particular, the COVID-19 numbers, which are recorded separately from respiratory diseases, continued to fall after an upsurge in early spring.
599 deaths from COVID-19 dropped threefold compared to the previous month, when there were 1,762 deaths, and is the lowest number this year. A number close to that was last seen a year before, in July 2020, when coronavirus had claimed 525 lives, while the figures were steadily growing after that.
The flu and pneumonia numbers decreased by almost one-fourth as well.

Mortality data is a crucial tool for decision-makers on the national and community level. Unfortunately, the data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine is still almost two months behind, so we cannot realistically estimate the mortality rate in Ukraine right now.
