Over 231,000 land plots were bought by Ukrainians in 2023

404,000 properties were bought by Ukrainians last year. This is still significantly less than in 2021 when it was 631,000.

From 2015 until the start of the major war, Ukraine’s real estate market was constantly growing. In particular, before 2021, when the government opened the land market, there were significantly more deals for buying homes than land, but in that year, the numbers almost equalized. Since the start of the full-scale conflict, people began to invest more money in land.

Currently, Ukrainians are buying land more often than homes. Last year, land plots were bought 1.3 times more than apartments and houses.

The number of newly purchased homes exceeded 172,000. But this is still half as much as in the pre-war year when it was 325,000. However, compared to the first year of the full-scale war, the real estate market is picking up: back then, Ukrainians bought 100,000 houses and apartments.

Last year, Ukrainians bought 10,775 apartments and houses with mortgages. And 1,127 mortgages were taken out for buying land. That means for every 9 deals for housing, there was only 1 for a land plot.

More than half of the mortgages for housing in 2023 were arranged through government programme “YeOselia” — 5,855.
