The number of child support debts has increased by 14% since the beginning of the full-scale invasion

Nearly 9% of debtors are women

As of early August 2024, almost 190,000 cases involving child support debtors have been recorded in the Unified State Register of Debtors. The number of such cases has grown by 14% since the start of the full-scale war. 91% of debtors are men. In 2024 alone, the number of child support debt cases has increased by 2,800.

As of early August 2024, there are 187,246 cases related to child support debts in Ukraine. Over the more than two years of the full-scale war, the Register has added 23,376 new cases. Since the beginning of this year, nearly 3,000 cases have been opened against child support debtors.

The vast majority of child support debtors are men: 91% of cases. Women account for 9% of all child support debts.

The majority of debtors are Ukrainians aged 25 to 45 years old — 71.7%.

Since 2021, Dnipropetrovsk region has ranked first in the number of cases related to child support debts. Despite a year-to-year decrease in new cases in the region, it currently holds the highest number of outstanding debts: 20,303, or 11% of the total. At the same time, only 313 cases for non-payment of child support have been opened in Dnipropetrovsk region since the beginning of the year.

Following Dnipropetrovsk is Kharkiv region with 11,139 cases, or 6% of the total. It is worth noting that compared to 2021, the number of child support defaults in the region has almost halved—down by 44%.

There has been a sharp decrease in child support debts compared to 2021 in front-line regions: a 79% reduction in Donetsk region, 92% in Kherson region, and 95% in Luhansk region.

Zaporizhzhia region ranks third in the number of child support debt cases with 9,343 cases (5% of the total). Compared to 2021, the number of unpaid child support cases in this region has decreased by 34%.

At the same time, there are regions where the number of child support debts has increased: by 15% in Ternopil region and by 6% in Chernivtsi region.

It is also worth noting that in 32.9 thousand cases of child support debts, the region is not specified.
