Are individual entrepreneurs a gender-balanced community?

In Ukraine, 863,455 women work as individual entrepreneurs, which accounts for 46.6%—almost half of all entrepreneurs. The proportion of women increases from year to year, e.g., it was 44.8% back in 2016.
Women do business mostly in retail trade (43.6%) and provision of other individual services (9.3%).

Computer programming, consultancy, and related activities (4.9%) take third place among the areas where women operate. As of February this year, 43,407 women work as IT entrepreneurs.

The proportion of women among individual entrepreneurs in the IT industry increases significantly every year. In 2017, it was 20.9%, while this year, it’s already 24.7%.
