The Volunteer Registry grew by 1.5 times this year

However, the number of individuals conducting fundraising without registration with the Tax Service is significantly higher

5 December 2024

By the end of November 2024, 10,454 volunteers were officially registered according to the State Tax Service. However, unregistered individuals continue actively fundraising, with nearly 40 billion UAH collected this year — a 1.4 times increase from the previous year. The largest number of registered volunteers is in the Kharkiv and Kyiv regions.

The official list of volunteers has grown 1.5 times since the beginning of the year. Around 3,500 individuals joined this year, bringing the total to over 10,000 people in the registry.

On average, 310 people were added to the registry each month. The largest number of new volunteers was recorded in January and May, with 548 and 533 entries, respectively.

The highest number of volunteers is registered in Kyiv—1,600 (15.6%), followed by the frontline region of Kharkiv with 951 (9.1%) and Kyiv Oblast with 896 (8.6%).

This year, the largest increase in new volunteers occurred in the Rivne and Zaporizhzhia regions, where the numbers grew by 1.8 times in both areas.

202 people have been removed from the Registry since the start of the full-scale invasion. The majority of exclusions occurred this year—127 individuals. Almost all volunteers in 2024 left the list upon submitting a removal request, with only one person excluded due to death or disappearance.

However, it’s not only officially registered volunteers who help the army and organize fundraisers; ordinary people also contribute, often by creating donation drives via Monobank. This year, 115,000 people open volunteer accounts every month on average. In comparison, about 85,000 people organized fundraisers monthly last year—a 1.3 times increase. Notably, donation drives can be created for convenience by both volunteers and military personnel themselves, making it impossible to clearly categorize account holders.

It is worth noting that Ukrainians are now more likely to donate to personal fundraising accounts than to large funds and charitable organizations. For comparison, the three largest funds in the country (the Prytula Foundation, Come Back Alive, and United24) raised about 19 billion UAH throughout last year.

Approximately 2 million people contribute to accounts every month — a 15-fold increase compared to the first months of the full-scale war. The number of donations has also grown significantly: 8.8 million transactions per month compared to 1 million per month in 2023.

Compared to the first year of the full-scale war, the average donation amount has increased by 1.6 times, from 250 UAH to 410 UAH. Accordingly, the total amount of funds raised is also growing: nearly 40 billion UAH has already been collected this year. This is 1.4 times more than last year and almost 5 times more than in 2022.
