The number of software cash registers (SCR) in Ukraine has doubled since the turn of the year—from 67.6 thousand up to 143.6 thousand. Whereas the number of conventional cash registers—about 300 thousand—remained virtually unchanged: +1.34%.
In line with the number of mobile POS terminals, the percentage of electronic receipts has increased in the total number of transactions. Back in January, there were only 5% of such receipts, while after just three months their share increased up to 10%.

In 2020, Ukrainian entrepreneurs got an opportunity to use regular smartphones as cash registers. In fact, the PE fiscalization—which is a mandatory recording of settlement transactions between an entrepreneur and a client using a cash register (CR)—was provided in the law dated 2014. But the technical implementation has dragged on for a long time, and it is only now that a method has been found to keep the records and not to force the entrepreneurs to buy expensive cash registers.
Starting on January 1, 2022, the PEs that are single tax payers and belonging to groups
«For small and medium-sized businesses, software cash registers are an easier way to comply with the legal requirements. Conventional CRs—push-button cash registers or fiscal printers—require substantial investments. One such device costs from UAH 4,000 up to UAH 20,000, and its monthly service fee is about UAH
200–300. A software CR having the same features will cost only UAH100–200 per month.More than half of non-fiscalized small businesses in the HoReCa sector—including small coffee shops and takeaways—are still keeping their sales records in Excel or ‘on paper’. Such catering companies may perceive the legal requirements as an upgrade opportunity and connect a software cash register directly with the business automation systems. These will help with sales monitoring, loyalty system management, delivery service launch, and theft control.
Some entrepreneurs still hope that the law will be amended, the test period will be extended, or fiscalization will not affect them at all. Another part, as usual, will be connecting at the eleventh hour. Most likely, we will be seeing large-scale registration of software cash registers in December—January. We recommend our clients register a point of sale, a cash register, and PE authorization keys right away, while the rush is not so high»,
